Batiquitos Lagoon Educational Event 4/12/2023

On Saturday, April 8th, Bruce Ireland, along with eight of his fellow Snake Wranglers, held an educational event, hosted by the Batiquitos Lagoon Nature Center in Carlsbad. This event was, very well attended with an estimated crowd of 100 or more.

The event included an interactive talk about the snakes commonly seen in our region along with an entertaining "show & tell", that featured over a dozen snakes, including a few rattlesnakes. Event attendees had the opportunity to get a close-up view, and even touch many of these snakes. The enthusiastic crowd peppered Bruce and the rest of the Wranglers with thoughtful questions for more than an hour.

The event was so successful that the kind folks at the Batiquitos Lagoon Nature Center have invited the Snake Wranglers back for an encore event in July this year.

The goal of this targeted instruction to train the students and staff to easily identify the types of snakes found in our region along with the proper protocols to follow if they see a snake at school or at home.

The woman in the photo above is the school's Principal. It was her first time to ever touch a snake.
